Accessories are always a hot item that have no preference to body-type or size; well, unless the accessory is a diaper bag. Once only found on the arm of a new mom, diaper bags have crossed over into Dad territory. Today's diaper bags range from backpacks, messenger bags, fanny packs, large satchels, and traditional shoulder styles. Their colors and patterns are just as diverse. Now Dad can carry a diaper bag, of his own or to share with Mom, without feeling paranoid that he's carrying a puffy pink purse to show he cares for his child.
Several brands now include lines specifically for dads, while some put a more masculine color/pattern on their traditional bags and label them dad bags. Be careful when selecting a great bag for Dad because even in camouflage, the traditional style of a diaper bag can be seen. Think about the types of bags Dad already uses. The most popular styles of these daddy bags are the backpack and messenger.
A designer brand, Fleurville, has a line of bags for dads including the Ballistic DJ priced at $118. This bag comes in black, khaki, khaki camo (tan/gray), chocolate, orange, and olive. It is a sling-style backpack featuring a fleece-lined pocket for sunglasses, an expansion zipper so it can be used for short or long trips, and an easily accessible wipe case. For the eco-friendly dad, Fleurville also features a green product they have trademarked Re-Run. This bag looks like a more traditional diaper bag, although a little smaller than most, but makes a bigger statement being made from recycled plastic bottles. The Re-Run costs $80 and is available in orange and a geometric pattern of chocolate and teal/aqua.
Eddie Bauer's black diaper bag with grey suede is just $24.99, offering low-key styling without sacrificing function. Looks like a soft cooler with a long, adjustable shoulder strap and has a gender-neutral style and color. Size wise, this bag is on the smaller end of the spectrum.
For "Daddy Sports Fan," Dad Gear offers a backpack and messenger style diaper bag with 7-11 collegiate logos. The team logo is embroidered on a black bag. These bags range from $78-$84. You would never think these were diaper bags. The black collegiate messenger looks like the typical messenger used to carry a laptop and papers, but features great interior compartments to easily organize the bag. It also features a quick access wipe container. This bag is sold without sports logos, with or without a stripe, in olive, blue, red, and black. This would probably be the best pick for a dad bag for the average guy, not too catwalk or couch potato. Also from the Dad Gear brand, the Cross and Skull Messenger ranks as a "Customer Favorite."
Skip Hop has a Via Backpack and Via Messenger in black, red, gray, lime, or chocolate. Both attach to strollers. The messenger features hidden magnets that allow the flap to close in different ways. Price range is $70 backpack and $79 messenger.
Any guy brave enough to wear a "fanny pack" would enjoy the hands-free mobility of Diaper Dude's mini diaper bag for $39.98. This bag would be very functional for an afternoon playing in the park. It can also be worn over one shoulder.
Men tend to look for functionality/comfort over style when shopping. Choosing a backpack or messenger bag will keep function at the forefront, while giving Dad the masculine style he deserves.
